The Downtown Eureka Springs Ghost Tour

The Downtown Walking Ghost Tour is run by Haunted Eureka Springs, a private operator. It meets on the front steps of the Carroll County Courthouse at 44 S. Main Street, then heads up Spring Street. The walk covers less than a quarter mile over about 90 minutes and finishes in the Catacombs at the old Dr. Ellis Building. The operator describes these as a preserved stretch of the town’s underground tunnels. That visit is included in the walking ticket. Arrive at least 15 minutes before your booked departure.

Adults pay $23.50. Children ages 7-17 pay $18.99, and children under 7 and dogs are welcome at no charge. These are the posted walking-tour prices.

The separately ticketed Ghost Hunting Experience costs $15 per person and spends about an hour introducing ghost-hunting tools and using them in a portion of the Catacombs. The equipment includes an Ovilus 6, REM Pods and pendulums. The operator labels this product “NOT A TOUR.”

Choose the walking ticket for a guide-led outing through downtown and its stories. Choose the Ghost Hunting Experience if trying the equipment is what interests you.

Voices from Eureka’s Silent City: Our October Pick

Our pick for an October evening is Voices from Eureka’s Silent City, the Eureka Springs Historical Museum’s annual cemetery tour. Actors in period clothing portray people from the town’s past, sharing their lives and stories among the graves. The emphasis is on the people who lived here and the history they left behind.

The lantern-guided experience takes about an hour and runs on selected October evenings. It is also a museum fundraiser. Follow the museum’s Voices from Eureka’s Silent City page for the current season’s dates, theme, and tickets.

Keep in mind, there is no event parking at the cemetery. The museum directs attendees to an off-site lot, with a free shuttle to and from the tour. Use those arrival instructions when planning your evening.

Melonlight’s Theatrical Tour for Ghosts

Melonlight’s Eureka Springs Tour for Ghosts makes the downtown walk a performance. Costumed, comic characters guide the experience, with props, storytelling, lighting, and sound. We recommend Melonlight for its actors and original writing.

The outdoor walking tour starts in front of the Melonlight Theater at 2 Pine Street and lasts about 80 minutes over 0.4 miles, with hills and stairs. The company also offers a seated Indoor Campfire Experience inside the theater. Melonlight describes the experience as family friendly, with some dark elements and mild language. Youth ticket holders must be accompanied by an adult ticket holder.

The seated experience is in the upstairs theater, which has no wheelchair access. Confirm the format and access you need before booking. The tour page holds current dates and tickets.

US Ghost Adventures’ Downtown Walk

US Ghost Adventures offers the Eureka Springs Eternal Elegy Ghost Tour, a nighttime walk focused on local haunted history. Its site advertises year-round tours. Use the operator’s Eureka Springs tour page for current tickets and meeting instructions, and judge the route against the kind of outing you want.

The Crescent Ghost Tour and January Paranormal Weekend

The Crescent Hotel Ghost Tour focuses on the hotel’s own stories and ends in its former morgue. Guests stay with us and attend the Crescent’s ghost tour. Its separate ghost-tour ticket page has the current schedule and arrival instructions.

The Crescent also hosts January’s Eureka Springs Paranormal Weekend, with investigations and workshops. That event has its own ticket and accommodation arrangements. Review the current terms separately from an ordinary ghost-tour ticket when planning a visit.

How Much Walking, and What About the Stairs?

Haunted Eureka Springs describes its walk as “paced for most people (although there are stairs involved).” Less than a quarter mile in 90 minutes is a slow pace. The stairs still deserve a question if they affect what you can comfortably do.

Ask about the route and access before buying tickets. For the Catacombs, a step count and a description of the entrance will help you judge the outing more than the distance alone. Melonlight’s seated experience also requires reaching its upstairs theater.

We know our own stairs well. We don’t know theirs.

Wear shoes you’d trust on a hill. For an outdoor adventure, let the weather guide your choice of a layer, too.

Booking Your Visit, Including October

Book through the operators whose experience you’ve chosen. Haunted Eureka Springs sells its walking tour and Ghost Hunting Experience separately. For Melonlight, check whether your chosen date offers the walking or seated experience. Keep the experience name, meeting point, and departure time with your confirmation.

Haunted Eureka Springs says many of its tours sell out. Consult the calendar for your dates, leaving room for dinner, the experience, and the journey from its final stop.

A Eureka Springs haunted tour can be part of a visit beyond the Halloween season. If you’re coming in October, our Halloween in Eureka Springs guide covers the wider seasonal plans. The Zombie Crawl guide covers the parade weekend, a separate outing to work into your stay.

Can You Get Dinner After the Tour?

Have dinner before Haunted Eureka Springs’ walk, which runs about 90 minutes. A ghost tour doesn’t care what time your stomach thinks it is. Many downtown kitchens close by 9 PM, and some finish earlier.

For other experiences, work backward from your booked departure, allowing for dinner and the journey to the meeting point. To eat afterward, confirm the restaurant’s last seating and food orders, then allow for the experience and travel time. Nine o’clock is a general closing pattern, not a promise that a kitchen will take an order at 8:59.

Local Flavor is one of our nearby dinner recommendations. New Delhi Cafe is a casual option within walking distance of Cliff Cottage Inn. Settle on a restaurant and confirm its service hours when you make your evening plans. A leisurely dinner needs more room than a quick bite.

Haunted Eureka Springs and the Town’s Spring-water Beginnings

Basin Spring helped draw the health seekers around whom Eureka Springs grew in the nineteenth century. Visitors came believing the water could help them heal. The town’s Victorian-era buildings belong to that history, and its old downtown remains a place where a walk puts you among the buildings of an earlier era.

For someone considering ghost tours in Arkansas, Eureka Springs offers old downtown streets, an underground visit, theatrical storytelling and cemetery history. The guides supply the Eureka Springs ghost stories and historical accounts. You can arrive curious, skeptical or already convinced, and still have a town with a substantial past to look at.

Parking Downtown and Staying at Cliff Cottage Inn

If you’re driving in for a downtown tour, leave time to find a space and reach its meeting point. Payment hours and restrictions are posted at the meter or lot. Read the instructions for the space you use, particularly if dinner brings you downtown well before your tour starts.

Staying at Cliff Cottage Inn gives you a place to leave the car while you go out. Complimentary off-street parking comes with every reservation. From Cliff Cottage Inn, it’s 17 steps to Main Street below, then a walk to your downtown meeting point. Plan transport separately for the Crescent or the cemetery shuttle departure.

Those steps are part of the return, too. You’ll climb them after an outing that may have stairs of its own. If steps affect your plans, talk with us about the suite you’re considering before you book.

Cliff Cottage Inn is a bed & breakfast, with breakfast offered as an optional paid addition. Add the silver-tray breakfast when you book if you’d like it delivered to your suite the next morning. Our FAQs cover parking and the breakfast option.

For the hours around your tour, our things-to-do guide gives you more of Eureka Springs to explore. Leave yourself a little time to wander. The town can feel quite magical above ground too.
