“America in Bloom” Circle of Champions Award to Our Little Village

Eureka Springs Receives America in Bloom “Circle of Champions” Award

2012 America in Bloom (AIB) Symposium & Annual Awards was held September 20-22

AIB loves to celebrate and recognize the great things communities are doing to “plant pride” in America. At this years’ event, awards were presented in four different areas: criteria awards; population category awards; John R. Holmes III Community Champion Award and the YouTube Video Award.

A new designation was announced this year to honor the achievement of communities who have won a combination of three population category wins and/or criteria awards. The new designation is called “Circle of Champions”. Very few cities have ever won at least three major awards. Eureka Springs was one of the nine cities to receive this year’s “Circle of Champions” award. Here is a list of all nine winners:

  • Arroyo Grande, CA
  • Greendale, IN
  • Fayetteville, AR
  • Holland, MI
  • Tipp City, OH
  • Bexley, OH
  • Eureka Springs, AR
  • Lewes, DE
  • Ocala, FL

Several years back, Cliff Cottage Inn received the Eureka Springs “Gardens of the Year” Award when the innkeeper planted over 2,000 pink and purple tulips in front of the inn. Unfortunately, the 9 resident deer discovered the tulips, ate them as appetizers and then moved on to eat everything else in the inn’s gardens. The deer have named Cliff Cottage Inn as “The Best Banquet In Town” and even enjoy rose salad and holly dessert, thorns and all. After more than a decade of garden disappointments, the innkeeper has finally conceded to the deer and she no longer plants annuals for their devouring delight!
